Its aims are to keep members in touch with one another through a well organised sailing and social programme, and to inform members of matters of interest through 'Compass' magazine, published three times a year.
The MOA is divided into branches - East Coast, Solent, Poole, West Country and Mediterranean. Each is headed by a committee comprising Captain, Vice Captain, Treasurer and Secretary, aided by general committee members. These branches organise their own programme of events and keep in touch with their members through regular newsletters.
The national committee guides the Association and works closely with the branches. The sailing activities include ditch crawls, cross channel rallies, cruising in company and a racing programme. There are plans to widen the Association's membership base into Wales, Scotland, Ireland, the North-East and North-West.
I'm always glad to receive members' contributions for 'Compass'. In case you haven't seen it, it is an A4, 40-page, glossy magazine. Each issue will typically include cruising reports by members, national association news, branch news, technical articles, information from the Channel Islands and Ireland, book reviews, letters to the editor, humorous tales and classified advertising. The editorial is balanced with display advertising from manufacturers and suppliers of nautical equipment and services, many of whom offer special discounts to Association members.
Membership currently costs £20 annually.
